Pricing personal styling services is one of the first real business decisions a stylist makes. Price too low and you attract clients who don't value the service; price too high before you have proof and you price yourself out of referrals. The answer is usually a mix of packages, hourly work and retainers.
Common service packages
- Wardrobe edit: a half-day session at the client's home, plus a short follow-up report. Often the entry-level package.
- Personal shopping: a half or full day pre-shopping and accompanying the client. Usually priced higher because of the time and logistics.
- Event styling: a flat fee per look or per event. Clients expect a clear outcome and a set number of options.
- Capsule refresh: a smaller seasonal update, sometimes sold as a recurring package.
- Ongoing retainer: a monthly fee for a set number of hours or looks. Best for busy clients who want regular support.
Pricing principles
- Charge for the outcome, not just the hour. Clients pay for a wardrobe that works, not for three hours of your time.
- Include prep and follow-up. Research, pre-shopping, travel and the lookbook all take time. Build them into the package.
- Leave room for upsells. A wardrobe edit client often becomes an event styling or shopping client.
- Raise rates as you gain proof. Testimonials, before-and-afters and a strong portfolio justify higher prices.

Making it easy to pay
Use invoicing software or a platform with built-in payments. The less friction between the booking and the payment, the fewer no-shows and late invoices you'll chase. LookLayer Studio's solo plan includes client management and lookbooks; you can handle payments through your preferred provider or explore team and retail plans as you grow.
